The reigning champions added Marcelo Demoliner and Stephane Robert in the draft to compliment returners Yanina Wickmayer and Andreja Klepac
INDIAN WELLS, CALIF. (March 13, 2018) – The Orange County Breakers selected Marcelo Demoliner and Stephane Robert in the 2018 World TeamTennis Draft. Before the draft, the Breakers re-signed Yanina Wickmayer and Andreja Klepac, who were both on the 2017 roster that won the World TeamTennis title last season.
“We are very excited to add two strong male players to our roster for the 2018 season,” said Breakers head coach Rick Leach. “We already believe we have the top two women in the league and adding Demoliner and Robert to this lineup should be a great mix.”
Demoliner, who was taken with the Breakers sixth overall pick in round one, is the highest ranked doubles player that was selected in the draft. Demoliner is a Davis Cup regular for Brazil and he currently holds a doubles ranking of world No. 47.
Meanwhile, Robert hit a career high singles ranking of world No. 50 in October of 2016. The Frenchman has reached at least the second round of every Grand Slam in singles and has a career best finish of the round of sixteen during the 2014 Australian Open. Robert, who is primarily a singles player, briefly cracked the top 100 in doubles just four years ago.
While the WTT Draft is complete, the Breakers still have the ability to select one male and one female Wild Card player for the 2018 season. Wild Card players are taken after the draft and are eligible to play a maximum of five matches. The Breakers 2017 Wild Cards included Steve Johnson and Maria Sharapova.
The upcoming WTT regular season is set to take place July 15-August 2, 2018. The 2018 schedule was released last week, and the Breakers will host seven home matches during that time at Breakers Stadium at Palisades Tennis Club. Season tickets are also currently on sale.
